The term “Platinum Chef” came from the college days when my roommates and I would take turns cooking every Friday and hosting a laid-back dinner for our friends. We just wanted to learn how to cook. It soon turned into a small competition where each of us would try to out do the meal from the previous week. If memory serves me correctly, the last and the grandest meal was Filet Mignon wrapped in Prosciutto. On a college student’s budget, that’s pretty impressive.
When we first started, we jokingly called ourselves the Titanium Chefs, a geeky parody title of Iron Chef. But like anything in life, practice makes you better. After a semester or two of cooking, we decided that a name upgrade was necessary. So we became the Platinum Chefs.
That was back in 2002. Now the honorary Platinum Chefs are scattered across the east coast, and we’re still bound together by our love for food and culinary experiments. This blog is a personal tribute to my fellow chefs, and a place where I share my journey through delightful (and disastrous) culinary experiments.
